Dalhalla
A world-class open-air amphitheater carved from an ancient limestone quarry
A Unique Concert Experience
Imagine attending a concert in a 60-meter deep limestone quarry, surrounded by towering rock walls that create acoustics rivaling the finest concert halls in the world. This is Dalhalla — one of Europe's most spectacular outdoor venues.
Located deep in the forests outside Rättvik, Dalhalla was transformed from an abandoned limestone quarry into a world-renowned concert venue in 1995. The arena's unique shape — 400 meters long, 175 meters wide, and 60 meters deep — creates natural acoustics so exceptional that opera can be performed without electronic amplification.
What to Expect
Each summer, Dalhalla hosts 20-30 events featuring everything from opera and classical music to rock, pop, and jazz. Past performers have included artists like Def Leppard, Judas Priest, The Ark, and countless opera stars. The venue seats up to 5,400 guests, yet maintains an intimate atmosphere thanks to its natural amphitheater design.
As the sun sets and the limestone walls glow in the evening light, you'll understand why Dalhalla is described as one of the most impressive outdoor arenas in Europe. It's not just a concert — it's an unforgettable experience.
Geological Wonder
The quarry sits within the Siljan Ring, created by a massive meteorite impact 370 million years ago — the same geological event that formed Lake Siljan near Muntergården. The limestone walls that create Dalhalla's perfect acoustics are a direct result of this ancient cosmic collision.
